“So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also” (Rom. 1:15) We usually limit the gospel to those who do not believe. When we do that, we limit the scope of the gospel. Paul was ready to preach the gospel to believers in church! The gospel is the good news of liberty from sin and resurrection power in Christ. The extent of the glad tidings will expand in the believer as he tests the waters of freedom from sin, and launches out into the deep. The gospel is more than sins forgiven. It is peace with God and deliverance from sin's power. Believers continually need to be reminded of the gospel. It's preaching was not to be limited to when one first believed Christ, but is a way of faith every day, resulting in growth in holiness, relationships, trust, service, love, power, conviction, and more. Paul opens up the gospel throughout the pages of Romans. Sin’s effects will be talked about and dealt with. Resurrection life identified with Christ will be talked about and practically applied. Christ has gained a great salvation for us in this life. We will know the salvation to the extent that we deny ourselves and put His promises to the test. Remember: The gospel is for all who need daily deliverance. |
