Are We Living In the End Times?

©1999 Tim LaHayes, Jerry B. Jenkins
Tyndale House Publishers
372 pages, HB

This book clearly covers the significant biblical prophecies fulfilled in the past few decades as well as relating such current events which may lay the foundation for tomorrow's fulfillment.

For instance, one important prophetic key was the establishment of the Jewish state of Israel. The authors cover this development with fascinating, behind-the-scenes detail I have not seen elsewhere.

Tim believes that the end times apostasy began in part when the many seminaries were gradually overrun by liberal Christians. So, many Churches now receive instruction from liberal-minded pastors and teachers.

Other topics covered include: the rebuilt Temple, the rise and fall of Babylon, the great tribulation, Christ's return, the Millennium, the last rebellion, and heaven. The last section of the book covers "Personalities," or the key end-times players, such as the Antichrist and two witnesses.

Twenty-six pages of the book covers Tim's defense and explanation of the pretribulation rapture of the church. Five pages are given to the Great White Throne judgment. Tim seems to believe that no Christian will be subjected to a terrifying judgment, so no foundation for preparedness for the judgment of believers is laid.

This is a terrific book for checking the newspaper against events unfolding before Christ's second coming. But it is not a guide for preparing your heart against that climactic event.
