The Church of Thyatira, Rev. 2:18-29<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rev. 2:18 \u201cSon of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass\u201d Looking up bronze and brass in the OT and NT (KJV and NKJV), many uses of bronze refer to joining together the tabernacle furnishings. Two verses mention crushing enemies with the feet, but not with bronze or brass feet (2 Sam. 22:39, Psa. 18:38). There is the bronze serpent of Moses in Num. 21:9. Two verses linking bronze and God\u2019s judgment on Israel are found in Ezek. 22:30, Ezek. 24:11. These five latter verses, along with the Son of God\u2019s eyes like a flame of fire, paint an ominous picture, perhaps not one we readily associate with the Son of God. Do you see Him as a judge of your church with this picture?<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
This church is taking sin casually, like the previous church in this list of churches. Evil Jezebel leading them (do a search about her), sexual immorality, eating things sacrificed to idols, lack of repentance, committing spiritual adultery, and the depths of Satan, Rev. 2:20-22, 24\u2014no good can come of all this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maybe they could not see these troubles because they focused on other things: love, service, faith, and great patience, Rev. 2:19. Didn\u2019t the Pharisees pride themselves on doing certain things, yet forgot God? They were outwardly zealous for good things, but their hearts were far from God. We see how far the Lord has to go to wake up this church of Thyatira when He told them: \u201cAnd I will kill her children with death,\u201d Rev. 2:23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The latter warning is not an idle one:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIf anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned” (John 15:6).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe” (Jude 1:5).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are” (1 Cor. 3:17). Throughout all these hard sayings, the Son of God extends a hand of hope, that some will see these things, repent, stand for Christ against opposition (\u201ckeeps My works\u201d), and overcome by His grace, Rev. 2:26-28. His rewards to the faithful are great: if they hold fast to His ways\u2014if they suffer with him\u2014they will rule with Him, Rev. 2:26-27. And He will give them the morning star, Rev. 2:28, which is a title applied elsewhere to Christ (Rev. 22:16). When we give ourselves to serve Him, He will serve us (Luke 12:37).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
