This is the information age. We are constantly being bombarded with Twitter tweets, blogs, websites, Facebook or MySpace trivia, email spam, RSS feeds, television and cable/satellite programs, radio programs, DVDs and Netflix, MP3s, MPGs and YouTube, mobile phones, junk mail, billboards, as well as the ever-declining newspapers and magazines.
How any one message can stand out to merit the term “ramming down the throat” is beyond me. Most of these information-gathering venues are sought after by the person who views or listens to it. The few times any religion is detected can hardly be termed “ramming down the throat” when all other types of information are sharing the same method of delivery.
This phrase speaks more about the person who says it than the message itself – someone who is so sensitive to the subject that he has a near-violent reaction to any mention of religious messages.
Nevertheless, why do we popularize the message of Jesus as much as we do? Why do the athletes talk about Jesus at the mic? Jesus told us to spread the good news to all nations in Luke 24:47. He told us to teach all people so that they may be his disciples in Matthew 28:19-20. In this way we are being true to our faith. To be silent is to be hypocritical. The news that God will forgive sins and work in our lives, and banish all sin, disease, and death at Jesus’ coming, is worth passing on in every conceivable means possible.
