They think that faith means to believe something without proof. The Bible never uses that definition. On the contrary, the God who said, “Come, let us reason together,” left many proofs to build up our faith. Faith is knowing something is true. Biblical faith is not about hoping something is true, or wanting to believe something is true.

https://stevehusting.com/doubtbusters/2011/01/18/dont-reason-and-faith-contradict-each-other/

9

Book Review: When the Storm Hits, by Churck Smith

What do we do when the storm hits; how are we to react when the troubles come?
This book reminded me of several perspectives regarding our trials that I had forgotten. God has a purpose for our trials that Christless people cannot share in. Our trials will not overwhelm us when we see them through God’s eyes. I read of one man who prayed, “God, why can’t I get rid of this sin?” God replied, “Because you don’t hate it enough yet.” That’s because God does not overcome our wills. For instance, according to this list, he believed in God and country until God corrected it to just “God.” He prided himself in being a Hebrew of pure Hebrew parents, and not a half breed from a mixed interracial marriage; God persuaded him that his parentage wasn’t enough, but being in God’s family was.

https://stevehusting.com/doubtbusters/2015/02/07/to-learn-unlearn-to-believe-disbelieve/

6

A Tale of Two Resurrections

When Paul made an argument for his faith in Acts 24:10-21, he affirmed his belief that both the just and the unjust will be resurrected (24:15). What is the resurrection of the just and the unjust? When we encounter a doctrine in the Bible that isn’t well-developed in our minds, we may change the words a bit to make the verse fit our theology better. In the case of the resurrection of the just and the unjust, we may adapt it to our way of thinking by making it say, “the resurrection of the saved and the unsaved,” or “the resurrection of the believers and unbelievers.” (This makes us feel good about ourselves, too.)

https://stevehusting.com/doubtbusters/2013/09/04/a-tale-of-two-resurrections/

5

Don’t I have to love myself before I can love others?

Because the passage of “Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself” ends in “as thyself,” it seems to imply that if we loved ourselves more, then we could love our neighbor more. These passages imply that God is not satisfied that we are “saved,” going to church, and being nice people. He is looking for mature believers who have specific qualities, and those qualities cannot be developed in our own strength, doing good deeds that we’ve thought up, or participating in religious routines, such as Jewish laws.
