Daniel 9:24-27 gives us a sweeping, end-times prophecy from Christ\u2019s first coming to His Second Coming. Verse 27 tells us about the final seven years before Christ sets up His kingdom. It all begins with someone making an agreement, or covenant, with Israel and other nations for seven years. (In the passage, \u201cone week\u201d is the term understood in those days as a week of years, or seven years.) Here is the passage:<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.\u201c (Daniel 9:27)<\/em><\/p>\n Jesus makes reference to this time period in Matthew 24:15, revealing that this person who makes the covenant with Israel will stand in the temple\u2019s holy place (the \u201cabomination\u201d mentioned):<\/p>\n \u201cWhen ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n 2 Thes. 2:3-4 tells us more details of this person who makes the covenant and breaks it in the middle of the week, or after 3 1\/2 years:<\/p>\n \u201cLet no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The Jews will make a covenant with this person, who will, three-and-one-half years later, stop the sacrifices in the Jewish temple by surrounding Jerusalem with his armies (Luke 13:20<\/a>), and proclaiming himself as a god. (Please note that it is not specific a “peace treaty” but a covenant.) In the field of Bible end-times events, the signing of a seven-year covenant with Israel is significant, especially in these times when Israel must be constantly on guard, surrounded by nations that wish to destroy Israel.<\/p>\n Is the covenant with Israel in August 2020 this covenant? After all, it is not with Israel only, but “with many,” or several other nations as well. One thing I don’t know is the duration of this covenant. Is it seven years, or a covenant that is in force until governments break it because of some disagreement?<\/p>\n One thing I do know is the present willingness of several nations to join in a covenant with Israel shows a softening of their stance. This allows for the possibility of an antichrist figure to come and join the nations into a more solid agreement, even if for only seven years. Now we know that a covenant among several nations that includes Israel can be a reality and occur at any time.<\/p>\n With the end nearer than before, pay close attention to what the Bible says about getting ready.<\/a> His idea of getting ready is to continue in the will of\u00a0 God where you are, not to abruptly remove yourself. Seven years before he comes, a person will make a covenant with Israel for a seven-year period. Interestingly enough, it is a covenant with “many,” not with Israel alone. So expect a covenant with Israel and surrounding nations.<\/p>\n b. If the maker of this treaty will enter the temple of Israel, that implies that the temple will be rebuilt. Any covenant with Israel indicates the coming of Christ after 3.5 years or more after the covenant is made. There is time to rebuild a temple during that time.
