GONE! Now you see it, now you don't. Disappeared, vanished. Gone! The magician loves to keep his audience guessing when he makes a object disappear— only to materialize it later when we least expect it. Objects disappear and reappear in the same location or a different one. An object vanishes—only to reappear in a different color. It's gone—and something else takes it's place, better or bigger than ever. It seems that nothing is immune from the skilled magician, small items like cards and balls disappear. Dazzling ladies and ferocious tigers trade places. The Space Shuttle and Empire State Building, which each took years to construct, are gone in a moment. With a wave of the hand they are back in place. In every case, the object vanished always reappears in some way, or something else takes its place. Yet there is going to come a day when something is going to disappear and never come back. No, we are not talking about the ants, spiders and roaches in the house you never seem to be able to control. We're not talking about that bully on the block or those grades you've wanted to hide. We are talking about sin and evil. The Bible teaches us that all people have sinned against the God who created us. This is not hard to believe. For instance, one of the 10 Commandments God gave us was to have no other gods before Him. Has something been more important to you than God? Then you have broken this commandment, and have sinned before Him. One commandment tells us not to steal; another commandment warns us against even desiring something that is our neighbor's. Breaking these commandments condemns us before God, just as breaking our country's laws condemn us before our law enforcement. We cannot help breaking God's laws because our sinful nature naturally tends us against God. Unfortunately, that law-breaking has to be punished, and God has provided a fiery Hell for that purpose. Fortunately, the God who loves us has also provided something to get us out of that punishment. Remember when magicians have made something disappear, only to make the object reappear as something different? Well, God wants to make our sin nature disappear, and have something else take its place. He wants to replace our sin nature with a new nature that can obey Him, as the Bible says, "The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new." God made it possible to have our sinful hearts changed when He sent His Son, Jesus Christ to die in your place. Jesus Christ was holy, sinless and loving. He came from the throne of God and walked on this world as a man. Wicked men planned against Him to nail Him to a cross to kill Him. But when He was upon the cross, God laid on Him the iniquities of us all. Then Jesus was punished by God in your place. Days later, He arose from the dead. Then He arose to heaven back to the right hand of God. Now we may have our sins forgiven by God. This happens when we speak to Him in prayer, admitting that we are a sinner before Him, and ask Him for forgiveness. "If we ask Him to forgive us, then He is faithful and just to forgive us all our unrighteousness." This forgiveness results in two things. First, with sins forgiven, the door to Hell to closed to us forever. Secondly, God makes your sin nature disappear and replaces your heart with a new one, enabling us to be well pleasing to Him. Don't let your reward in heaven disappear because you did not accept God's free gift of forgiveness. The Lord will come again to judge sin. Then He will create a new earth without sin or evil and He wants you enjoy it with Him! Ask Him to forgive you today. Then read your Bible daily and pray daily to better understand His will for you.
