How did the magician pluck the silk from his fingers? How did he make the cane disappear before our eyes? How did he cut and restore the rope? We are filled with wonder as we watch the performance, then we leave with these questions still unanswered. But there are greater wonders than these--the wonders of God. And it would be sad if we leave with unanswered questions about Him. If we were to ask the magician for the secrets of his tricks, we would be disappointed, for he would not reveal the answers. However, the fact that the Bible is written tells us that God is not trying to hide anything from us. The secrets of God's heart are written down for all to see and learn. For instance, God does not keep His love for us a secret. Rather, "God demonstrated His love for us in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). Just as the magician performed up front where all may see his skill, even so Jesus Christ, the Son of God, became flesh and blood so that all may see the love of God. He showed us that love by dying on the cross for our sins. Nor does God hide the fact that "your sins have separated you from your God" (Isaiah 59:2). And so we live apart from God: "All have sinned" (Romans 3:23). Sin is disobeying God and that means that we must be punished. But Jesus bore that punishment on the cross for us, so that we would not have to. Now "if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). Jesus Christ, who died, was buried, and then rose again, can free you from the punishment of sin and from its power. He gives life to those who would come to Him in prayer and ask Him for it. So ask Him to forgive you and give you life. Then read the Bible to see what other secrets He wants to reveal to you.
