1 Samuel 12:17 “Is today not the wheat harvest? I will call to the LORD, and He will send thunder and rain, that you may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which you have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking a king for yourselves.”
Do we know what it means that Jesus is king, or is our focus more on being good people in church? How we deal with the Word of God helps us see whether Jesus is King or not. Have we made a king of ourselves?
When we follow through on what lesson the Word is giving us personally, we are affirming Jesus as king over us. Over our mind and thought patterns. Moving our trust in ourselves to trust in the Lord. To break out of sin that Jesus may be Lord in that area.
Through the Word, God speaks to us. The Word points us to believe Jesus, not ourselves. To live to Jesus, not self. To put Jesus first, not our personal things.
The Word is a sharp sword that plunges between the soul and the spirit to reveal the state of our hearts, so take the Word seriously. The Lord wants to be king over all. Let every chapter point us to King Jesus. Follow through with personal application to express surrender and obedience to the King. In this way He is Lord of our lives practically and not in word only.
1 Samuel 12:24
“Consider what great things He has done for you.” This is a great antidote to straying after idols. We should be specific about what the Lord has done and what He promises to do, so we can see clearly the foolishness of the options the world, the flesh, and the devil dangle before us. This is done through our times in the Word as we look to Jesus, our worship, and the bread and cup. We want our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace so we can preach to ourselves His wonderful salvation.
