After seeing King Solomon’s riches and hearing his wisdom, the queen of Sheba said to him, “Behold, the half was not told me. You exceed in wisdom and prosperity the report which I heard” (1 Kings 10:7, NASB).
What wonderful words to say when we’ve had our fill of daily bread in the Word of God, “The half was not told me” of my Lord. How wonderful is the wisdom of our Savior and the riches of grace we have in Him.
We don’t want mere intellectual assent. We want to be moved. We want joy in the Lord. We want grace to motivate us to serve and work. We won’t settle for a tidy message in our journal and a formulaic prayer.
We want the promised abundant life. We want to boast that we know God. We want to wrestle with God until He blesses us. We want to see His glory–and marvel that the half has not been told.
In whatever spiritual state we find ourselves, there is still more to follow. We can be more like Christ. We can love our neighbor more. We can grow ever more in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
The half was not told us. Don’t be stagnate or lukewarm in your pursuit of God. Let’s not assume we’ve reached the end of our quest. Much more land has yet to be conquered. One more soul to be saved. More excellence in our service. More fervency in faith. More earnestness in our love. More contriteness in our repentance. There are yet more treasures to mine.
Our Lord exceeds all other men in wisdom and prosperity. He is to have the preeminence in all things. We are to seek first the kingdom of God. We are compelled to offer ourselves to Him as living sacrifices. These are all responses to the half we’ve received since the Father has opened our eyes to see His Son.
If we have fallen short in this, what is the remedy? We ask God to grant what only He can give: “Restore to me the joy of Your salvation.” Jesus said no one can come to Him unless the Father draws him. Ask Him to draw you out of your comfort zone and find rest in Him. Not praying just once. Not twice. Pray until the answer comes, until the living waters satisfy your soul, and the living bread feeds your spirit.
